In an instant, a vivid splash of blue pigment bursts onto pure white Japanese washi paper—this is FLOW by Kashiwa Sato. Using a large brush saturated with blue mineral pigment, Sato delivers a single, decisive blow with his entire body. The moment the brush is swung, the pigment takes flight through space, tracing unpredictable, spontaneous arcs before being captured by the washi. Directed by forces of nature—velocity and gravity—the fleeting motion is made eternal, frozen in time. FLOW is a drawing without a brushstroke—a raw, organic abstraction where chance and the laws of physics intersect, free from the artist’s intent.
